Tuesday, February 1, 2011: Waiting for the Storm

I'm waiting for the big storm. My mother has called repeated, worried we might not make it back from the cabin (we did). The areas south of here that are not expecting major snowfall are preparing for ice. I have called my son repeatedly to make sure he was not setting out on his thirteen-hour trip to Georgia in the middle of this storm, that he will carry food and supplies in the car in case of power outages along the way.  I apologize for doing the "mother-thing" and he laughes, says it's okay.  He is supposed to report for military duty on Sunday but can delay his trip until Thursday.

Everyone is safe. Groceries have been stocked. We can only wait, wait to see if the snow, the winds, the aftermath will be as bad as anticipated.

It is quiet tonight. Icicles pick up the last rays of evening sun, and the earth waits quietly for a  fresh blanket of white.

Amazing photos of the ice, which looks both bony and muscular, as well as if it were moving. I do relate to the "mother-thing." My older son has to travel from Washington DC to Michigan, and I already made him promise to check in with me via text along the trip until he gets to his destination.
